HomeFishing Reports

08/30/10 Lake Michigan fishing reports out of St. Joseph and Benton Harbor

Best Fishing at the moment seems to be the PERCH FISHING. The Salmon bite has slowed a bit but should be picking back up any day now. The big fish seem to be scattered all over the lake. Boats are reporting catches of Kings in close in the 40 to 60 foot depths but the catches are not consistent. Lake Trout are being taken anywhere from 60 - 100 feet of water during both the early morning and also the evening bite. In close lures of choice are J-Plugs as well as other Plug Baits. Out in the deeper depths Flasher Fly Combos and also Cut Bait Rigs, and Spoons are working well. All seem to be working well trolling on leadcore or copper setups, Dipsey Divers and also Downriggers. Perch Fishing is good as well in both directions of the piers from 25 - 40 feet of water. Perch Fishermen have even reported catching nice size perch and getting limit catches using minnows. The Best Salmon Bite is Early in the day till about 9am. There is also a Good Evening Bite as well. The Best spoon colors have been NBK (Natural Born Killer), Mixed Veggies, Stinger Dolphins w/Red Tip, Blue Gander Glo, and UM Frog Glow. Plugs have been productive as well for the Kings, Blue Spatter, Green Spatter, Wonderbread, Mother of Pearl are a few of the popular choices. Flasher-Fly combos seem to be doing BEST! Thanks to the Fishermen who fished the 3rd of 4th Quad Challenge on Saturday 08/14. We had 31 boats participate and there were some nice catches recorded.
